Desk organizer with retractable bookend does two jobs that normally need two products. One side is a large-capacity pen holder with multiple compartments; the other is a bookend that slides out to brace a row of books, then retracts when the row shrinks. It is aimed at a study desk where the number of books in use changes weekly and a fixed bookend is either too far out or in the way.
The retracting arm is the mechanism that earns the design its place: extend it and it supports a stack of textbooks, push it back and the unit returns to the footprint of a pen holder. A hanging storage board on the body takes headphones, a lanyard or a cable so those items stop lying flat on the desk. The plastic construction is finished matte, which resists the fingerprints a gloss surface shows on something handled daily.
On a student desk it holds the term's current books upright with the stationery built into the same unit, so there is one object to move when the desk is cleared. In an office it suits a corner holding manuals and reference folders beside the pens. For a small desk it is the practical choice, since a separate bookend, pen cup and cable hook would cost three times the surface area.
