Folding shoe rack with coat hooks, built for the entryway that has to absorb shoes, coats, bags and hats in one narrow strip of wall. Rather than buying a rack, a hook rail and a bench separately, this carries all three on a single frame, which is the difference between a hallway that works and one that accumulates. It suits flats and terraced houses with no cloakroom.
The frame is iron with reinforced joints and stands 167 by 60 by 28 cm, tall enough for full-length coats to hang clear and shallow enough not to narrow a corridor. Each hook takes up to 500g and each shelf up to 3kg, figures worth knowing before a wet winter coat goes on. The frame folds flat when it is not needed, so it can be put away for guests or moved between rooms.
Set it against the wall immediately inside the front door, in a porch, or on a landing at the top of the stairs. The bench section gives somewhere to sit while pulling boots on, the lower shelves take the shoes themselves, and the hooks keep bags off the floor where they trip people. In a bedroom it works as an open dressing station for tomorrow's clothes.
