The case is moulded in PP plastic with multiple storage grids inside and a lid that closes over the whole tray. The lid is what makes it work on an open desk: contents stay put if the box is knocked, and dust does not settle into compartments that are only opened occasionally. The cartoon styling keeps it from reading as office equipment in a bedroom. The divided tray holds everything at a single level, so nothing is lost underneath something larger.
