Wall-mounted storage shelf that puts the wall to work in rooms where the floor is already spoken for. It suits plants, framed photographs, small speakers, paperbacks and the ornaments that otherwise crowd a windowsill or a side table. Because it sits at eye level rather than knee level, the things on it are actually looked at instead of just stored.
Construction is a wooden board carried on an iron frame, and assembly is deliberately simple: the two ends of the iron frame line up with the holes drilled at the front and back of the board, and each end is pushed into its hole in turn until the frame is seated on both sides. The board measures 50 x 40 x 30 cm, so it holds a genuine group of objects rather than a single token item, and the metal frame carries the load rather than relying on the timber alone.
Mount it above a sofa, beside a bed, along a hallway or over a desk as a partition between two zones of an open-plan room. Everstock chose the pink-toned wood finish so it works as visible decoration rather than something to hide, which is the difference between a shelf a room keeps and one that comes down after a month. In a rented flat a single shelf is also a low-commitment way to add storage.
